April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball stars who won medals in multiple Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold medal in the next couple of days. More than that though Ross hopes to win the first Olympic gold. It may well be that she has one opportunity, given that she is 39 years old. Nevertheless she is confident that the top awards are in reach. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even playing well, I think we could win the gold medal." Therefore, I'm hoping to have the chance also. Ross was born in 1982, and grew up in Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began participating in sports at Newport Harbor High school. In Newport Harbor High School, she competed in numerous activities. In her time as a college athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. She was clearly the best at the sport of indoor volleyball. In her high school volleyball career in her university biography she played as a middle-blocker, outside-hitter and setter. The results of her efforts were acknowledged when she was named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions Players of the Year. In addition, she was awarded the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple since the year 2017, Klineman was already an established athlete on the beach even before the pair formed. She actually won multiple major tournaments using two partners, one of which is a volleyball icon. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Alongside Kessy Ross was an ace in the world circuit, winning an international title in 2009. The duo won silver at London's Olympics. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat for the gold. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. The team won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. In high school and the years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an NCAA. She had a great run in the NCAA tournament. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans to reach the Final Four. She endured a great personal loss in her sophomore, yet was able to achieve the All-American title. Over the course of the two years she played for the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them achieve consecutive championships. The individual accomplishments of her have established her status as a legend in volleyball. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross majored in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not get to see Ross achieve beach volleyball's top level. Ross suffered the loss of her mother to breast cancer in 2001.
